CYCLING

Cyclists gravitate naturally to the quiet roads of the Machars; but there are also signposted routes, of varying length and difficulty.

The quiet roads of the Machars and (relatively!) gentle slopes make the area ideal for cyclists. You will find many by-roads, where you can meander along with few cars and views of gentle dairying country, but if you prefer, the Machars has four signed cycle routes : yellow, orange, green and red. Of these, the green route (20 miles) passes through Mochrum, Port William, Monreith and Whithorn, while the red route (17 miles) travels the south eastern Machars, with views to Wigtown bay, visiting the Isle of Whithorn, Sorbie and Whithorn.

For more information, you can pick up a free cycling leaflet from Tourist Information centres.
